I got tagged to respond to a get-to-know-you meme from [info]leback.

1. Where did your LJ handle come from?
In high school, I was really into genetics. I wanted to become a botanist or go into genetic engineering. One of the things I like about the mechanics of life is that it's a self-organizing force that spawned from apparent chaos. "genetics" + "chaos" + finding something unique that won't likely be taken = "genetikayos".
2. Describe the room you're in.
I'm in my girlfriend's bed. She's snoring lightly and has her naked body wrapped around me while I'm sitting up in bed working on the laptop. Piles of laundry on the floor. Dog crate in the corner. The dresser is piled high. Everything is covered in cat hair.
3. What was the last text message you sent and to whom did you send it?
I told [info]eeyore42 that we were going to go home and take a nap.
4. What are you currently reading?
I've taken a break from reading Mists of Avalon to read The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty.
5. Do you need music to study/write/work?
It really helps me to work on programming if I'm listening to electronica. Otherwise, I mostly use music to keep me company.
6. What's the last song you recall listening to?
I'm not sure but the song that I can't get out of my mind at the moment is Raspberry Beret by Prince.
7. What is your biggest obsession?
I'm not an obsessive type but sometimes I wish I were. In fact, I can't think of anything that I'm obsessed about right now.
8. Do you have a crush at the moment?
Hmm, I guess I'm not sure what "crush" means. I have a couple of people that I'm seeing that I care very much for and would like to see more often but I'm not currently experiencing sustained limerence with these people at the moment. I'm kind of too shy to say who they are. I think they know who they are.
9. What is your favorite movie genre?
My favorite movie genre is horror but I can't find many other friends to watch it with me.
10. What was the last thing you ate today?
I haven't eaten anything today. Now that you mention it, I'm really hungry. After I finish this, I'm going to go hunt for food. Last thing I ate was chicken strips from Chili's last night with my girlfriend.
11. Name three people (living or dead, real or fictional) who helped shape who you are today.
I guess Mrs. Rivers, my 5th and 6th grade teacher, my grandparents, and, more recently, my girlfriend. I've changed a lot in the past year.
12. What websites do you visit daily?
I am a habitual RSS/ATOM user so I don't "visit" sites daily. I am subscribed to 290 feeds. Of those, I read entries in order of favoriteness. Friends come first (64 friends, mostly LJ users). Then, "quirky" sites that include Boing Boing, The Daily WTF, and Indecent Haiku. Next is "tech news" which includes Wired, Slashdot, and ValleyWag. I "read" (aka, skim over) about 1000 entries a day.
13. What's your favorite food?
My favorite food is french fries.
14. Which languages do you wish you spoke?
I wish I spoke French and Italian.
15. Name a drink that you particularly enjoy.
I enjoy a Bombay Sapphire and tonic with a lime. I can't stand gin in general but Sapphire is actually really good.
16. Do you have a birthmark?
I have Argentina on the inside corner of my elbow and I have some kind of archipelago on back of my knee.
17. Who was your childhood idol?
I'm really not sure. It might have been Dr. Sam Beckett.
18. Where would you like your next holiday to be?
I have a long list. I guess the next one on the list is San Jose, Costa Rica.
19. What do you do to fall asleep?
I usually don't have any problems at all falling asleep. Occasionally, I get insomnia but I haven't figured out what to do about it when it happens.
20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you.
She's tall, academic, and is passionate about politics.

*grin* Thanks for the answers! I love the geography terminology for describing your birthmarks. :-)

Oh, also -- if french fries are your favorite food, you might like Frjtz in San Francisco: <http://www.frjtzfries.com>. It's one of my favorite low-key places to eat in the city. If you and [info]wuukiee are interested, maybe we could get a carful together to head up there for a weekend meal sometime...

That would be awesome. We are also big fans of crepes and bellinis.

Then this *must* happen. Now if only I could figure out how to fit me, my partners, you, [info]wuukiee, and her husband into a single car... One could always just meet there, of course, but it's a long enough round trip that one misses out on a lot of good company that way. :-)

How many people is that, total?

wuukiee suggests renting a van.

I suggest a programmer solution of randomly shuffling people into two vehicles so there is some intermixing, then, randomly shuffle them again on the way back so people get to talk to a different set.

There are three of us (my partners are Alexei and Robert, who you met at Thanksgiving), so unless I've omitted anyone key on your end, I count six. I like this shuffling-and-reshuffling idea. Or one could just use Caltrain, which is probably cheaper and no more hassle than renting a van. :-)
